3 Tips to Avoid Spreading Bed Bugs
The holidays are right around the corner and for those battling bed bugs, it can be a bit of a tightrope walk. If you have a bed bug problem it is critical to protect those around you! Aim to avoid spreading bed bugs to friends and family by following these tips!
- Do not host! If your home is currently being treated for bed bugs, and has not been cleared – Please do not host holidays! If you are going to host a gathering, tell your guests so they can protect themselves and their homes.
- Take precautions before going to a gathering. Dry your clothing and coats on high heat and immediately remove from the dryer and put into a sealed bag. Change right before you walk out the door. This is a great way to prevent spreading bed bugs in everyday life, work, etc. Bed bugs are hitchhikers and this limits the chance of taking one out the door.
- Limit what you take! This is a good idea in any event, with the bed bug problem being so prevalent in our area. Do not take or bring anything that cannot be thrown in the dryer before you go – And after you return home. This includes coats and hats!
The holidays are a tricky time as many get together to celebrate, it can be very conducive to spreading bed bugs throughout a family or friend group. It is also a good idea to take extra precautions if you are visiting a loved one in a nursing home or care facility.
The rule of thumb is to change and dry as soon as you get back home! Immediately change your clothing, and toss everything into the dryer on high heat for at least 30 minutes.
